watched to see if their future voting is in line with the platform they
presented to their constituents, also without being influenced by party politics, and without

Bad Legislation due
to self-serving
politics.
These House
members (in the middle column of this page) voted for HB 545. The
Republicans on this list acted egregiously by voting contrary to Republican
principles of Free Choice, Free Enterprise, and Individual Responsibility.
But Democrats, who are for social assistance and a more benevolent government,
were at first discouraged from voting yes until their leader, Joyce Beatty
, was
found to have a conflict of interest in that her husband was a paid lobbyist for
the payday loan industry. Once she was exposed, she quickly turned on a
dime and supported the legislation and encouraged all of her sheep to
follow. We are sure that there were certainly some Republicans and
Democrats who would have voted on the merits of the bill without influence by
partisan politics or seeking political gain. But we are sure that the
vote ended up being passed because of party politics and self-serving
legislators.
Chris Widener
, a Republican, and
Chairman of the Financial Institutions especially showed his true colors when he
sponsored HB 545 and stated that Payday Lending in Ohio was "an experiment."
We're sure that the owners and employees of the payday industry were impressed with this statement.
Instead of correcting areas of payday lending that should have been addressed, he
decided to write lengthy and wasteful legislation to put the industry out of
business and do damage to our economy. What his motives were,
we do not know. But we do know that he, as a Republican, acted
completely contrary to what his constituents expected of him. He threw freedom
of choice, free enterprise, and individual responsibility out the
window.
